A Visit to Nonthaburi with Singaporian Students!

วันนี้เริ่มต้นวันไม่สวยเลย มีเรื่องให้เศร้าใจแต่เช้า
เดินเข้ามหาลัยเพื่อจะไปขึ้นรถตู้ ไปรับเด็กสิงคโปร์ไปทำกิจกรรม
เจอนกกระจอกสองตัว อยู่บนพื้น
ตัวนึงตาย นอนนิ่งสนิท อีกตัวกระโดดไปมาอยู่ข้างๆ ร้องจิ๊บๆ
สะเทือนใจอย่างแรง
นกสองตัวนี้มันเป็นอะไรกัน เป็นแม่กับลูก? หรือว่าเป็นแฟนกัน?
คนเดินมาไล่ เอาศพนกไปทิ้ง นกอีกตัวก็ยังบินกลับมาวนเวียนตรงนั้นเหมือนเดิม
เศร้าจังเลย สงสาร ได้แต่แผ่เมตตาให้นกเงียบๆ ชาติหน้าขอให้ไม่ต้องเกิดมาทรมานแบบนี้
It was not a really beautiful morning to me today. Sad thing did happen.
I was on my way to the van, picking Singaporean students to do some activities in Nonthaburi, when I found two sparrows on the ground: one dead, one hopping around and chirping.
That shook me real hard.
What was this bird to the dead one? Mother - Offspring? Or maybe Lovers?
Even when someone put the dead bird away, another bird kept returning to that spot.
That was terribly sad...All I could do to pray for it to have a better life if reincarnation exists.

แปดโมงครึ่ง ออกเดินทางไปยังบ้านเด็กพิการซ้ำซ้อนราชาวดีชาย ที่ปากเกร็ด นนทบุรี
จุดประสงค์เพื่อพานักศึกษาสิงคโปร์จาก Ngee Ann Polytechnic ที่มาสัมมนาที่ม.กรุงเทพไปร่วมทำกิจกรรมเพื่อสังคมที่บ้านเด็กฯ
ไปถึงเก้าโมงครึ่งพอดิบพอดี
โทรหานักศึกษา พบว่า ท่านๆยังรอกันไปรอกันมาอยู่ที่รังสิตอยู่เลย พระเจ้า มันน่านัก
ยังดีว่ามีนศ.จากม.อื่นเขามาจัดกิจกรรมด้วยเหมือนกัน เลยขอแจมๆเขาไป
ร้อน เหนื่อย แล้วก็เครียดด้วย อะไรๆก็ไม่เป็นไปตามที่วางแผน
At eight thirty, we left for the House for Handicapped Children Rajavadee in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi.
This activity aimed to take dear students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore, to join a social activity held by BU Club. (The full name of the Club is fricking long, so I will just let it go, hehe)
We got there at nine thirty, but when we called the student responsible for this activity, the answer we got was 'we're still at Rangsit Campus.'
Gosh! At that moment I wished I could reach into the phone and strangle them.
Luckily, there were students from another university preparing some activities for the kids, too, so at least we could join them.
It was hot and it was stressful. Nothing seemed to go according to plan.

เด็กๆที่นี่ อายุตั้งแต่เจ็ดถึงสี่สิบขวบ
บางคนก็ไม่พิการอะไรมาก เดินได้พูดได้ บางคนก็หนักหน่อย แขนขาหงิกงอ ใบหน้าผิดส่วน
บางคนต้องนั่งแต่รถเข็น ไม่สามารถไปไหนเองได้เลย
มีคนนึง เขานอนคว่ำตลอดเวลา เหมือนท่าซูเปอร์แมนน่านละ ขาสองข้างหงิกขดเป็นเลขสี่อารบิก มือสองข้างหงิกแนบกับใต้ลำตัวตลอดเวลา
ฟังดูฮา แต่ไม่เลย เมื่อคิดว่าเขาเกิดมาแบบนั้น และต้องอยู่ในสภาพนั้นไปตลอดชีวิต
อีนังคนไหนที่ชอบบ่นว่า "โอ๊ย ขาใหญ่น่าเกลียด โอ๊ยอ้วน โอ๊ยไม่ชอบรูปร่างตัวเองเลย ฯลฯ"
หล่อนควรจะสำนึกให้มากๆ ว่าบุญแค่ไหนที่เกิดมาครบถ้วน มีข้าวกินทุกมื้อ และดูแลตัวเองได้
The age range of the children here are from seven to forty.
Some kids' illness are not so serious: they can walk and talk sensibly. Some of them are not that lucky. They were born very much deformed.
There was one child I remembered. He laid on his stomach all the time, just like how Superman flew, his legs were twisted into the shape of 4, and his hands were tightly stuck beneath himself.
That might sound funny, but no, not at all, when thinking that he was born that way and had to be like that for the rest of his life.
So ladies, if you are one of those girls who always goes 'Oh no my legs are too big and ugly/Oh I'm too fat/Oh I hate my body...' etc. You should be grateful now that you were born physically perfect, you have good meals every day, and can take good care of yourself.

เดินแจกขนมน้องกันสนุกสนาน
อืมๆ ถึงพูดคนละภาษา แต่หัวใจก็สื่อกันได้เนอะ
ก่อนกลับก็มาถ่ายรูปด้วยกัน
Jet (I always think of Jet Li :D) gave the golden service to a kid. I really like this photo.
It is so touching and lovely.
At first they were a little bit scared (or so I guessed) but after that all went okay. I saw David sitting with one child, clapping his hands along with the song, while the rest walked around and gave the kids the snack they prepared.
Now I truly understand that the language barrier means nothing!

เป้าหมายต่อปายยย...เกาะเกร็ด
ท้องฟ้ากระจ่างสดใส ลมร้อนๆพัดเอื่อยๆ นั่นหมายความว่าวันนี้ร้อนตับแตกแน่นอน
พาเด็กๆ (เด็กจริง เพราะอายุแค่สิบหกสิบเจ็ด สาวยี่สิบเอ็ดอย่างเรารู้สึกแก่เฒ่าเหลือเกินนน) ลงเรือข้ามฟากไปเกาะ
พาไปหม่ำๆ ในเพิงอาหารแถวนั้น เขาก็ทานผัดไทย ก๋วยเตี๋ยว ห่อหมกหน่อกะลา ข้าวผัดได้ไม่มีปัญหา ไอ้เรากลัวกินเยอะแล้วเดี๋ยวเดินจะปวดท้อง เลยดื่มแต่โค้ก
ทีนี้ก็ปล่อยให้เดินเล่นกันบนเกาะ บ่ายสองครึ่งมาเจอกันที่เดิม
Next, Kret Island
The sky was so blue, the breeze was so warm, so gentle I was dang sure it would surely be another hot day, and I was right.
I and my colleage brought the kids (well, they are kids, since they are 16-17. How could someone feel sooo old with the age of 21?) to get the boat to the island.
We had lunch at the local restaurant. Everyone can have local food like Pat Thai, noodles, steamed fish with curry paste with special ingredient called Kala shoot (specialty of this island.) It is of the Ginger Family, but with milder taste, and fried rice. I myself did not dare to eat much since I knew I would get a cramp. So I had just Coke.
Then there was a free time for everyone to walk around.



ซื้อดอกไม้ทอดมาถุงนึง อัญชันกับโสนทอด
เสียดายว่าคงทอดมานานแล้ว มันเลยเหี่ยวๆหน่อย แต่ก็อร่อยแปลกดี
จริงๆอยากลองกล้วยไม้ทอด กับดอกเข็มทอด แต่ไม่กล้า
เห็นเขาฉีดน้ำยาใส่กล้วยไม้เลี้ยงในทีวีแล้ว เดี๊ยนไม่เสี่ยงค่ะ เพราะเราก็ไม่รู้ว่าดอกไม้นี่มันมาจากไหน แถมไอ้ดอกที่ทอดนั่นก็เหมือนดอกไม้ไหว้พระเป๊ะๆ
I bought a bag of fried flowers (another specialty), fried Butterfly Pea flowers and Sesbania flowers.
Too bad they had been fried and left on the tray for too long, so it was no longer crunchy, but still good.
Actually I wanted to tried fried orchid and ixora (Hakim, now I figure out the name of that flower we tried to think of its name!), but wasn't brave enough since I saw how the used the pesticide on orchids, and I had no idea where these orchids were from.



อย่างที่ทราบกันดีว่า เกาะเกร็ดนั้นดังด้านเครื่องปั้นดินเผา เพราะงั้นก็ขาดไม่ได้เลย แผงขายน้ำที่ขายพร้อมแก้วดินเผา
เดี๋ยวนี้เขาทันสมัยนะ เมื่อก่อนเราซื้อกินมีแต่เป็นโอ่งทรงต่างๆ
เดี๋ยวนี้เขามีโดราเอม่อน เฮลโหลคิตตี้ วินนีเดอะพูห์ ชินจัง และแม้กระทั่งเบ็กแฮม!
ขออภัยที่ภาพปลากรอบหมดแต่เพียงเท่านี้ เพราะเดินไปเรื่อยๆ แม่มอากาศร้อนขึ้นๆจนหายใจไม่ออก หมดอารมณ์ถ่าย
รู้แต่ซื้อของมือเติบมาก กำไลข้อมือลูกปัด พวงกุญแจเฟลิเซียจากดาร์กสตอล์กเกอร์ (มาได้ไงไม่รู้) ที่ห้อยโทรศัพท์มือถือลูกปัดแก้วน่ารักสี่อัน (ขอบคุณพ่อหนุ่มฮาคิมที่ช่วยออกตังให้ก่อน แล้วจะไม่ยอมเอาคืนด้วย ใจดีจริงจริ๊ง) หม้อข้าวหม้อแกงและชามตราไก่จิ๋วหลิวให้น้องสาว และจิปาถะ จำไม่ได้
กลับขึ้นรถมา สลบเหมือดกันทั้งรถ แต่เด็กชุดนี้น่ารักจริงๆ ร้อนก็ไม่บ่นอะไรมากมาย ของกินก็ไม่เกี่ยงอะไรมากมาย มาเรียนตรงเวลา สุภาพน่าร้ากจริงๆเลย
Kret Island is famous for its earthenwares, so what you will definitely see is the shops selling drinks with terracotta container.
They are quite up-to-date these days. When I bought one several years ago, the containers were only jars with different shapes, but today they have Doraemon, Hello Kitty, Winnie the Pooh, Shin-Chan, and even David Beckham!
Sorry if I had too few photos. It was so hot and humid that I did not feel like taking photos.
All I knew was that I bought a lot of stuff: a bracelet, Felicia from Darkstalker key holder, glass beads mobile phone holders (thank you so much Hakim for paying for me first when I had no smaller notes than 1000. That was very kind of you), and mini terracotta cooking pots and bowls for my sister, and much more :D
They quickly fell asleep once we got back to the van. Haha
I do adore this group of students. They are really nice. They don't complain too much about the heat, the food, and the class. Most important, they are polite. I'm more than comfortable to have accompanied them around!
